The Black Torment isn't a particularly innovative film; it simply rode the wave that was happening at the time. It must be acknowledged, though, that the setting works fairly well, and there are scenes where tension can be felt. Some of the characters, especially the mute old man, are quite good and help the atmosphere. But for me, the ending was slightly mishandled, and I felt that this deserved a somewhat better and more impactful resolution. ()
