A romantic, sweet summer flick which has a charm of its own. And amazingly, it is possible to sit through it (not enjoy it) even without your better half by your side. Swayze set the bar high for Czech men for a long time, and for some girls this continues to this day. In addition, I have a gleeful desire to throw in one star for the horrible, but truly iconic, Czech dubbing. ()
Sweet, naive, and irresistible, just like the main heroine. What's more, Patrick Swayze will remain an idol for many decades to come. I love sweet and painful romance more than any other genre and I cannot let go of this sweet delicacy. And anyone who says they don't like it secretly watches it anyway. ()
At times, it's really hard to believe that the story of Baby and her first summer love takes place in 1963. This is a film approached through the lens of 1987, and the period nostalgia is just a nice bonus. Despite the cult kitsch that it is, it’s also a pure genre film, an exemplary coming-of-age story where everything works, nothing is missing, and everything fits together with precise accuracy. ()
In the latter half of the 1980s, it was a big hit, practically a cult phenomenon that's hard to understand in hindsight because both in terms of writing and acting performances, it's just an average piece of work. Even today, I feel like nostalgia plays a significant role in its appraisal. Patrick Swayze was a rugged heartthrob, and the young Jennifer Grey was fragile and naive, so the film found its place in the market and people enjoyed it. But it's true that I still enjoy listening to the song that accompanied the film. It's a romantic story where music and, above all, dance play a significant role. Overall impression: 50%. ()
