In the film, you can really see that it's from the early era of sound film because there are a lot of "silent" scenes. The sounds are subsequently added, or the music used could fit well with Keaton-esque grotesque comedy. However, that doesn't change the fact that there was effort put into it, and John Wayne is great in the film both when he is young, and when he is older. ()
