Nick Carraway, vendedor de acciones, llega a Long Island con el deseo de encontrar una mejor posición social. Carraway decide instalarse en una pequeña casa, en la que tiene como vecino a Jay Gatsby, un elegante millonario de pasado turbio y misterioso, conocido en la alta sociedad por las lujosas fiestas que da en su enorme mansión. Gatsby invita un día a su nuevo vecino, y éste queda absolutamente fascinado por la figura de su adinerado anfitrión. Un encuentro que marca el inicio de una amistad que se verá fortalecida cuando Nick descubre que el verdadero interés de Gatsby es poder encontrarse con su prima Daisy, con la que mantuvo una relación varios años atrás. The 1949 version is a complete fiasco, while the 1974 version had the wide screen and Redford and Farrow for the first time. However, this TV version has Stephens, quite appropriate costumes, cars, and a dramatic storyline, which includes Jordan and Nick's love... Toby is really cute and his smile boldly rivals Redford and DiCaprio. However, the hair and make-up don't fit, which is really tiresome for the year 2000. Jordan wears a mikado, Daisy has stayed in the 1990s and the boys mostly wear civilian clothing. However, it has a really good script and a great score by Carl Davis, so considering the incredible improvement in the first sound version and the numerous anachronisms of the most famous version, this was by far the best one until the advent of Luhrmann's spectacle.
