Una buena mañana, Corea se despierta con una inquietante noticia. Se han hallado cadáveres en diversos ríos a lo largo del país. Todos presentan unos síntomas similares, con el cuerpo horriblemente desencajado y deshidratado. A medida que pasan las horas, más y más gente muestra una sed desmesurada que los lleva a precipitarse al agua, donde fallecen. Ya no cabe ninguna duda: el país está siendo asolado por una epidemia, causada por un parásito que utiliza el cuerpo humano como huésped. (Sitges Film Festival)

In a world full of pandemics, Deranged hits like a punch to the gut. To be fair, the South Koreans probably had no idea in 2012 that we’d be dealing with something like COVID today — I didn't even know what that word meant back then. Maybe that’s why they don’t hold back in this disaster flick, hitting the audience hard and fast. What’s impressive is how they used the concept of parasitic worms to not only craft a compelling story but also to reach the level of classic American disaster movies. You know, the ones that are packed with emotion and blockbuster elements that no one else seems to nail quite like Hollywood — except now, apparently, South Korea is right there with them.
