Situada en la Rusia del siglo XVI, esta es la segunda parte de Iván el Terrible de Serguéi Eisenstein. Inicia con su retorno a Moscú, donde los boyardos siguen conspirando contra el Zar y consiguiendo incluso el apoyo de la tía de Iván, que quiere ver a su hijo sentado en el trono y transformado en cabeza de la Iglesia rusa. Ella se encargará de acusar a Iván de herejía. Pero será él mismo quien se adelantará al complot y eliminará a sus enemigos con astucia y terrible dureza. (Zima Entertainment)

The second part is indeed somewhat better than the first; perhaps it's because there are colorful scenes here that give it the right Russian flavor. But it is also due to the fact of how the character of Ivan the Terrible evolved and what became of him. Now, it’s no longer magnificent; now it’s just terrifying. One cannot be surprised that Stalin banned the film.
