Sigue a un joven refugiado de la Guerra Civil sudanesa quien, junto a otros "Niños Perdidos del Sudán", gana una lotería para reubicarse en los Estados Unidos. Tras su llegada a América, los jóvenes son presentados a Carrie, una trabajadora social que, consciente de las privaciones que han sufrido, les intenta enseñar cómo desenvolverse en el mundo moderno. Hacía mucho tiempo que no veía una película que defendiera los valores familiares de forma tan limpia, contundente y sin sentimentalismos. Al mismo tiempo, enfrentó dos culturas diametralmente diferentes de manera inteligente, emocional e ingeniosa. El par de escenas en las que los nativos errantes clavan en el suelo una pajita hueca para beber agua subterránea y, unos años más tarde, intuitivamente clavan una pajita artificial en el vaso del MacDonald's para beber Coca-Cola, es TOP. Excelentemente escrita, interpretada y dirigida. Me conmoví. Witherspoon vende la película por carteles, pero en la película aparece a la media hora. El papel principal los desempeña un grupo de sudaneses, de los cuales al menos 'ella' ni siquiera es actriz (aunque no lo parezca). Producida bajo los auspicios de Brian Grazer y Ron Howard. You know that what makes a quality film is the issues it deals with and not the execution, right? There are a lot of clichés, just enough sentiment and the acting is great, or rather the black Sudanese faces give it a strange, raw and fresh touch of reality. Otherwise, it's a fairytale, with an expected "everything fits together beautifully" scenario, and in fact that's about the last thing that really happens in this clash of two different worlds, off-screen.

Actually, the film is quite good and it shows that even moving to America with the belief it's the promised land can be one big lie. What really bothered me though was the calculated addition of Reese's character. That character is just so incredibly clichéd - a woman who doesn't care about anything until she meets completely different people and realizes what she's been doing wrong. It's just unpleasant.
