Cobra Kai (2018)

inglés A great answer to The Karate Kid with which I was obsessed as a kid. 30 years more nostalgic but with all the characters you remember from the original movie. Moreover it shows that William Zabka and Ralph Macchio are able to act and serve as the leads of this series. What I like as well is that William has Czech ancestors, and therefore I have a feeling that I should support him as much as I can. Already his fondness for beer is more that likable. Cobra Kai is in its premise totally nostalgic. It has a few really brilliant scenes which are mostly at the beggining of the episodes but it is able to entertain you with its screenplay as well. The screenplay contains some twists and creates interesting problems between two dojos in a way that makes me enjoy it and want to watch more and more episodes. Moreover it is evident that the creators knew what they were filming because the only sensible character is Daniel’s wife and she is the only one who knows what he wants. It is a pity that Johnny and Daniel have to behave differently in every situation and act on their feeling more than their reason. Their sensei would surely explain it to them but then we wouldn’t have much to watch. As for me, it was great. Enjoyable, full of ideas, nostalgic, with relationships presented exactly in a way that makes you want to watch more, in short a great series that is worth watching. And it is just a matter of time before it becomes a legend. ()

Season 3 (2021) (S03)

inglés Even though the third season is fully under Netflix's production, the quality hasn’t really dipped, which is impressive. That said, I’m giving it one less star this time, mainly because the season feels stretched out, and not a lot happens beyond diving deeper into the main and side characters. Still, it’s enough to keep me hooked and looking forward to the next season. There’s definitely more talking and less fighting, but the finale makes up for it beautifully. ()

Season 4 (2021) (S04)

inglés I took a break from Cobra Kai for a few years, partly because it started to recycle itself and wasn’t bringing anything new to the table. To my surprise, I enjoyed season four. The first half was pretty uneventful, but the pace really picked up in the second half. The last two episodes were top-notch, especially the fight scenes. The humor was toned down a bit, and the emotional moments were a bit overdone. Daniel and Johnny's relationship felt like a thirty-year-old marriage. Despite these quirks, it got me pumped for the fifth season, and I dove right into it. ()

Season 5 (2022) (S05)

inglés When I found out this new season was out, I realized I had a lot of catching up to do. It’s interesting how much the show has evolved since the first season. It started as a family drama with funny moments and has now fully embraced its B-movie vibe, complete with humorous scenes. And you know what? I don't mind at all. The action scenes are fantastic, and the storyline is so deliberately straightforward that you can’t help but enjoy it. ()
