El inspector Frustalupi está desesperado y sin pistas. Tras dieciocho ataques a mujeres de la ciudad, el maníaco sigue suelto ante la impotencia de la policía. "Ladies and gentlemen, with the utmost humility, with the highest humility... I propose myself as the new chairman!" Sometimes, a verbal arrow of humor strikes, but otherwise, Roberto Benigni, the clown in loose pants with roots in commedia dell'arte, Chaplin, and Buster Keaton, fires with tips dipped in slapstick. For instance, when his wife Nicoletta Braschi tries something on him, and he counters sexual excitement with taxes, foreign currencies, and inflation... I don’t know if the mannequins were a nod to Lustig’s Maniac, but what I do know for sure is that you'll accept the film based on how much you appreciate the style of humor of its lead actor.
