Un saxofonista soviético, Vladimir Ivanoff (Robin Williams), logra escapar de la K.G.B. y se marcha a Estados Unidos, donde consigue asilo político. Vladimir se instala en Nueva York, en Harlem, en el superpoblado piso de Lionel Witherspoon (Cleavant Derricks), un guardia de seguridad. Allí conoce a una voluptuosa italiana, Lucia Lombardo (María Conchita Alonso), y a un perspicaz abogado cubano, Orlando Ramírez (Alejandro Rey), entre mucha otra gente. Vladimir experimentará la frialdad y el dolor que sienten, a menudo, los inmigrantes en una tierra extraña, pero poco a poco, aprenderá a querer a su nuevo país. (Nueva Films S.A.)

inglés I thought it would be very American, but it's more independent. The difference between America and the USSR at that time is clear, but it's not exaggerated in any way. There are problems in the USA too, although they're not emphasized as much here. The overall tone of the film is very pleasant, mainly thanks to the great performance by Robin Williams, who gave his character everything he could. Some of the jokes are enjoyable but not exaggerated, and the dramatic level is equally balanced. ()
