Basada en hechos reales, la cinta cuenta la historia de un grupo de isleños escoceses que tratan de saquear el cargamento de un barco que naufraga en sus tierras. El tesoro que pretenden robar tiene un inmenso atractivo: 50.000 cajas de whiskey. De este modo, y movidos por cierta ansia alcohólica, los habitantes planean toda una serie de estrategias con el propósito de sortear a las autoridades y hacerse con la mercancía. No obstante, un comandante británico, el capitán Paul Waggett, se enfrentará a ellos con el objetivo de que se haga justicia. (Movistar+)

I’ve never been to Scotland (let alone the Outer Hebrides). Therefore, I cannot judge whether or not it is really such a delightful piece of land that your main concern there is to have something to get drunk on. Mackendrick’s whisky-soaked debut for Ealing Studios mixes the serious (the Second World War) with the unserious, without inducing a headache. It rather causes a memory lapse, as the film offers a number of scenes ranging from lively to wild (thanks to the editing) or ironic and biting (thanks to the commentary), but none that are unforgettable, so it is hard to distil a memory of its more specific contours not even three days after seeing it. 75%

It's almost like making a fuss over nothing, but when it comes to alcohol, one simply lacks the strength to resist. At least a Scotsman, or more precisely, not a Brit. Thanks to one hefty dose of alcohol, some really crazy things happen here, yet the whole film seems incredibly serious at first glance. Just another example of beautiful British humor.
