Giro al infierno

Puedo contar los restos de los noventa con una mano, ya que entonces veía de todo, incluso comedias románticas con Meg Ryan. U Turn fue una de ellas, y ahora me arrepiento de no tener más de ellos en mi reserva, porque recordar estas actuaciones es delicioso. Justo cuando crees que no hay nada que te sorprenda aquí después del loco y grasiento mecánico de coches Billy Bob Thornton o el violento pervertido Nick Nolte, llega un tipo engominado y nervioso llamado Joaquin Phoenix y vives un festín como espectador. Sin embargo, tengo un pequeño problema con esta película de Stone: por muy buena que sea su construcción atmosférica y el creciente empuje en la situación jodida y cada vez más absurda del personaje principal, cada vez chirría más debido a una mezcla inconexa de drama y comedia que ni siquiera Morricone puede manejar. Y al final, en su mente específica de guionista las cosas se salen de madre completamente. (16.10.2020)

Darned bad luck. Oliver Stone played around with absolutely everything he could. Unreal camera and editing; you don’t often get that in movies like this. It's like eating mushrooms and finding yourself in a strange state where perspective is erased and sound cuts you like a saber on your bare skin. Somewhere, the combination of Stone's eccentricity with Ennio Morricone's overwrought soundtrack is pretty successful, but sometimes this experiment loses its way and staggers over the gorge of exaggeration. Luckily, it always saved by the hand of the excellent cast and a rather successful redneck prank. It's pretty obvious that Stone is trying so hard to find himself until he gets lost... And unfortunately, that lasted to this day. (09.01.2004)

Very dark, dead, blackly humorous, bleak and strongly atmospheric!! Great acting, a well thought out and polished story with plenty of twists and turns, this is awesome in every way and I can't find anything to fault with the film. If I went through what Sean Penn experienced in this film, I would hang myself the next day without a second thought. For me, one of the best movies ever!! 100%. (02.03.2014)

Weird film, that's the first thing that comes to mind when I think of U-Turn. Emotionally it’s a very cold film that just fizzles through your head. I’m not saying I was bored, but it is weak for Stone standards. Among those worth mentioning are the chubby, charmingly dirty Bob Thorthon (unrecognizable!) and the then-unknown Jeniffer with her sexy proportions. (11.05.2003)
