Zdeněk Troška really found his calling with fairytales. It’s a pity they all his fairytales are so similar. However, I have to admit that this one was the first. This fairytale was unlucky that I did not see it as the first one, but only after a number of the way better ones. The shoemaker could have spared us the tank top in the style of fairytale Middle Ages and Troška could have spared us some of the shots where there was nothing other than the sunrays. This way I cannot give it more than three stars. ()
The best film by Zdeněk Troška, a high-quality adventure fairy tale without the usual kitschy baggage typical of Troška's fairy tale creations of the last decade. Overall impression: 70%. ()
This fairy tale always scared the hell out of me. Růžičková and Blanarovičová are so awful here that I just closed my eyes like a little kid because I couldn't stand to see it. Nowadays I can watch it and I still enjoy the story a lot. Zdeněk Troška had a gift for nice stories, but gradually it became rather routine. ()
