Para alejarse de la esclavitud que impone la frenética vida en la ciudad, Gothamites Cooper Tilson (Dennis Quaid) y su esposa, Leah (Sharon Stone), deciden hacer las maletas y mudarse con sus hijos a una mansión recién reformada a las afueras de Nueva York. Cold Creek fue en otro tiempo una mansión grandiosa y elegante, pero ahora está en ruinas. Sin embargo, Cooper y Leah tienen todo el tiempo del mundo para devolver a la casa ese esplendor que pedía a gritos. Todo va sobre ruedas hasta que Dale Massie (Stephen Dorff), el anterior propietario de la casa, sale de prisión y reclama sus derechos sirviéndose de todos los medios a su alcance. The vampires’ soon-to-be deceased daughter accuses her father of running over a horse, whose body is floating in a pool with no way out. And let me point out that there was no Dorset horse fetishists' fair that day! This is how it goes in this run-of-the-mill thriller with an inflated runtime. Mike Figgis, realizing he has a failed script, wraps up the fiasco in the last fifteen minutes with unexpected thunderstorms, a sheep-killing instrument, and a stained-glass window for a nice flight through. To be honest, I was quite surprised that the villain bit the dust on the first try. The only positive is that Quaid could learn something from Dorff, as he took on his role in the 2019 film The Intruder.
