Necrotongue

I’d been avoiding these three films for quite a long time. I just didn't find the subject appealing, until I was made to watch them by a very persistent friend who brought me all three installments, and, lo and behold, I had a lot of fun. True, they are pretty old and I've seen a lot of newer and well-made animated films before them, but the charm is still there. Definitely a 5*.

One of those films I find hard to evaluate as I like it and dislike it at the same time. The film’s positives include Charlize Theron, a depressing atmosphere at the beginning, and the disabled weirdo with a garage distillery. The negatives include a gradual loss of the depressing atmosphere, an ugly dog, and the realization that I didn’t know what the point of the film was once it was over.

A fantastic conclusion to an excellent saga with a traditionally great cast and amazing humor with a slightly bitter aftertaste. Season 4 takes on an anti-war tone, giving you some food for thought while you are rolling on the floor laughing. The ending of the final episode was a masterpiece.

The third season should bear the subtitle ‘The Untold History of England’. As usual, an excellent affair in which the protagonist leaves the ranks of the nobility and must serve as a butler to the Prince Regent. The central trio of Rowan Atkinson, Tim McInnerny, and Tony Robinson have broken up, Tim McInnerny was replaced by Hugh Laurie, which was not a bad move at all. You could tell that the future doctor House was clearly enjoying the role of Prince George.

The second season is an absolute treat. Rowan Atkinson doesn't rely on making goofy grimaces anymore but chooses to do comedy through spoken word. The cast is excellent, especially Miranda Richardson as Elizabeth I is fantastic and creates a similar atmosphere of joy and happiness among her favorites as Joseph Vissarionovich Dzhugashvili was able to spread among his comrades.

I consider the first season to be the weakest one, albeit still excellent. My biggest problem is with Rowan Atkinson, who is too much like Mr.Bean here, which doesn’t sit well with me. I prefer him in more intelligent roles. On the other hand, Brian Blessed as Richard IV is absolutely brilliant in the first season, and he takes the spotlight in every scene he's in.

An interesting paradox. The cast was stacked with my favorite actors, yet the film didn't do much for me. Maybe it's because there are so many films about cooking and cooking shows and competitions, where there’s always some expert telling me that I eat the wrong way and even if the food’s healthy, the dish doesn’t look appetizing enough. All right, I get it. If your steak isn’t shaped like a swan, you are a food barbarian and should be ashamed of yourself! I did my basic military service, so I'm pleasantly surprised every time I'm served food that doesn't contain cockroaches and isn't burnt on one side and raw on the other. On the other hand, I understand that these films are important for restaurant owners, who can pretend that a tasting portion is a full-on meal.

I can't say I liked it, but I can't say I didn't like it either. Decent acting performances in a film with a screenplay that wasn't exactly brimming with originality. The film just flowed slowly by, occasionally catching my attention for a moment, only to sink back into indifference.

A romantic comedy that doesn't surprise you with anything. A standard plot, development, and ending. Under different circumstances, I would have given it a 2, but I’m giving it a 3 for two reasons. Firstly, it's a comedy and I had some genuine laughs. Secondly, Alice Eve.

Well done! A horror film that is watchable and enjoyable, unlike all that weird mainstream stuff. The film builds on a good story and cast and is filled with a perfectly grim atmosphere from the start. I was going to give it five stars, but I was put off by the ending. From the rescue of the wife and daughter until the closing credits, it turned into a very unpleasant surprise and even disappointment. The screenwriter is not to blame, he couldn't have come up with a different ending, as the film was based on true events...
